The one thing you need to know today

WORLDCOIN LAUNCHES WORLD ID PROOF OF PERSONHOOD PLUGIN

The world is starting to catch on to the possibilities of AI – everything from writing better copy to generating images and creating videos. We loved the Balenciaga x Harry Potter collab

However, we're also seeing the potential dangers of AI where its reasoning capabilities have already allowed it to lie to humans and convince them to help bypass a CAPTCHA test.

The real danger started with this image of his holiness, the Pope.

The problem isn't that this image was generated by AI, it's that this is the first example of mass disinformation by an AI.

We're heading towards a potential future where the ability to tell apart which information is authentic versus synthetic will become increasingly difficult.

This potential future is one that Sama is also predicting, which is why he's created Worldcoin.

What's Worldcoin?

Worldcoin is trying to build the largest identification network by scanning your eyes as a new way to verify and distinguish humans from AI.

We sent them a message a few days ago and got this cryptic reply.

They were right.

Worldcoin just released their software developer kit (SDK) for World ID

As there is no longer a reliable method to verify humanness online, it's a way to prove you're a person and not an AI robot.

More specifically, it's a centralized database of verified humans through eye-ball scans that maintain their anonymity through cryptographic technology.

Everyone is given a unique number to identify themselves aka, World ID.

So far they already have 1.4M people "verified".

With the release of their SDK, software engineers can begin integrating proof of personhood (PoP) verification into their apps. Imagine a future where instead of logging into a website, you just click "Verify You Exist".

Proof of Personhood is the next evolution of your digital identity.

So after this is implemented then what?

Well there's a few things that Sama thinks can be built off of this:

  1. AI-funded UBI

  2. Advanced spam filtering

  3. Social credit score / reputation system for lending & borrowing money

  4. Decentralization from governments for democratic decision-making

  5. Eliminating digital theft and fraud

All we know is we've got front row seats to history right now; it's exciting and terrifying at the same time.

Don't think the creators of Black Mirror could've predicted a world this crazy.
