CHATGPT USERS REPORT SEEING OTHER PEOPLE'S CHAT HISTORY
Yesterday morning, ChatGPT crashed for about an hour and everyone was freaking out.
OpenAI has yet to release a statement as to what caused the incident, but people on Twitter were not having it.
People paying $20 / month for ChatGPT Plus were furious. You mean I actually have to think today at work?! Unbelievable!
On top of that, some users reported seeing other people's chat history.
For those of you who don't use ChatGPT often, each time you login to ChatGPT, it starts a new chat to save each session with your respective prompts and its responses.
What happened was for some reason users started seeing other users's chat history titles.
why are you giving me foreign languages in my chat history side column this morning?
Have you been hacked?

Thankfully, users who encountered this reported that when you click those other chat titles that ChatGPT would fail to load them.
However, this has serious repercussions especially if sensitive data was leaked.
If a company's employee was foolish enough to enter confidential information into ChatGPT, we'll there's a chance that a stranger has now seen that information.
They might not be able to trace it back to you directly, but it could seriously hurt the company and/or its customers depending on the subsequent events that follow.
As of last night, OpenAI has made the chat history "temporarily unavailable" as they look to address this issue.
Just a reminder, OpenAI stores and tracks all of the information that you input into ChatGPT so do not use it in tandem with sensitive information whether its personal or professional.
Even if you have ChatGPT Plus, it does not provide any additional security or privacy features atm.
It appears people didn't know this as they panicked and tried to sign-up for ChatGPT Plus as a result of the crash, but soon encountered an error where other people's emails filled in the checkout page.
The Bunny previously covered what companies should do. The TL;DR is to use OpenAI's playground; inputs and responses here are not collected and used for OpenAI's training models.
